Japanese-style Horticulture Therapy

This article introduced our readers to the healing garden at the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, in Lebanon, Oregon.  Created by Hoichi Kurisu, this Japanese-style garden is completely surrounded by the hospital building, with a garden window providing views from almost every interior space.  Of particular interest is SLCH's cancer treatment center, where cancer treatment patients sit in ergonomic chairs, looking out through floor-to-ceiling garden windows at soothing waterfalls, green garden foliage, and koi swimming in the pond.  SLCH is just a small regional hospital, but it is leading the way and pioneering a whole new approach to relaxation therapy and holistic cancer treatment.  Japanese gardens, with their emphasis on natural patterns and human health, are well suited to play a significant role in this endeavor.  To learn a little more about the SLCH facility, click here.
