Japanese Calligraphy

This 4-page article is a brief tutorial about Japanese calligraphy.  Titled "Fun with Kanji," the article explains the basics of Japanese calligraphy, including hiragana, katakana, and kanji.  Several simple kanji characters are introduced.

Japanese calligraphy may, at first, appear to have no logical organization or structure.  This is not true.  The characters used in Japanese calligraphy follow certain patterns.  In some cases, the characters actually resemble the items that they depict.  It takes a while to learn the fundamentals of Japanese calligraphy, but the subject is endlessly fascinating.

Anyone who becomes serious about Japanese gardening will eventually have to deal with the Japanese language (and Japanese calligraphy) to some extent or another.  This article about Japanese calligraphy is a playful introduction to that world.
