Hyogu Artwork

This article offers insight into a special corner of Japanese traditional art.  The Japanese house does not typically contain much in the way of paintings, sculpture, or other artwork displayed in the Western manner.  Instead paintings and calligraphy are presented on interior elements including Japanese sliding doors, Japanese screens known as byobu, scrolls, and Japanese wallpaper.  This unique combination of Japanese furniture and Japanese painting is called hyogu in Japanese.  Read this article to learn more about hyogu artwork and the craftsmen who create it.
